Tilda Swinton, Selena Gomez, Elle Fanning, Charlotte Gainsbourg… On Tuesday evening, the 72nd edition of the Cannes Film Festival officially began. The film duel for the Palme d’Or will last until 25th May.
On the steps of Grand Théâtre Lumière for the 72nd time, a red carpet was rolled out, on which hundreds of invited stars passed. On that day, the greatest attention of photojournalists was focused on the cast of Jim Jarmusch’s opening film “The Dead Don’t Die” (the film is one of the favorites of the main competition).
The opening ceremony was attended by Chloë Sevigny, Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton and Selena Gomez (included in the set from Louis Vuitton). The hosts of the evening were Javier Bardem and Charlotte Gainsbourg.

This year Cannes will not see any Polish feature film, but Paweł Pawlikowski, winner of last year’s Cold War statuette, sat on the jury this time. The main competition consists of 21 films, including Pedro Almodovara’s Pain and Glow, Xavier Dolan’s Matthias And Maxime, and Quentin Tarantino’s controversial Unce upone a Time in Hollywood, which despite the title will not be a fairy tale. The new film by the American director tells the story of the famous murder in Roman Polanski’s villa (played by Rafał Zawieruch), where Sharon Tate, a pregnant woman, was killed by knife blows from Charles Manson’s gang. Knowing the original Tarantino convention, one can suspect that the director’s new film may shake Cannes, and the emotions are intensified by rumours that the film is not even finished yet.

So far, the first screenings in Cannes have started, and the evenings will be a time of elegant dinners and parties. This is a lot of opportunities to follow the festival’s creations. In the gallery you will see, among others, Elle Fanning dressed in Gucci (sitting this year in a feminine jurors’ line-up), the perfect Tilda Swinton in the role of Haider Ackermann and Julianne Moore in Dior’s emerald dress.
