The building is inspired by the mountain of Fuji. Fuji Mountain is the highest peak of Japan and still active Old Volcano. In 2013 the mountain was officially inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as a cultural heritage site, a sacred place and a source of artistic inspiration. In order to bring the history of the mountain closer to the Japanese and tourists, a World Heritage Centre of the Fuji Mountain was established in the city of Fujinomiya. The headquarters were designed by the famous architect Shigeru Ban. The body of the building resembles the shape of Fuji with its inverted base to the mountain. Nature obviously inspired the architect here.
The center is 4300 square meters. The tour starts already on the ground floor. During the tour, visitors enter the next floors of the building, which resembles conquering a mountain peak. On the top floor a huge room with a panoramic window and a spectacular view of Fuji awaits the guests.
