Pirelli Calendar 2020: How was Emma Watson, Kristen Stewart and Claire Foy?
We already know what the Pirelli Prime Minister’s Calendar for 2020 looks like. Instead of beautiful models, world-class stars have been chosen once again. See the surprising photos by Paolo Roversi.
The Pirelli Calendar has been a source of interest and controversy for years. The first was created in 1964, and the subsequent editions were written by such celebrities as Richard Avedon, Peter Lindberg, Bruce Weber, Herb Ritts, Annie Leibovitz, Nick Knight, Patrick Demarchelier, Mert and Marcus, Terry Richardson, Mario Sorrenti and Mario Testino. We can now add Paolo Roversi to this list. The famous photographer has made a session entitled “The Shooting of the Shoes”. The famous photographer has created a session entitled “In Search of Juliet”, which has just been presented at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona. Instead of modeling stars, famous women from the world of film and music were invited again.
Paolo Roversi was inspired by Shakespeare’s famous drama in his latest Pirelli Calendar, looking for “Juliet that exists in every woman”. Celebrities such as Claire Foy, Mia Goth, Chris Lee, Indya Moore, Rosalia, Stella Roversi, Yara Shahidi, Kristen Stewart and Emma Watson were invited to the 47th edition of this project. In addition to the photos, an 18-minute film in which Roversi plays the director, who interviews the candidates for the role of Julia, was also shown. The women appear one after the other to show “a multi-faceted character with a wide range of emotions and expression”.
“The action takes place in two parts. In the first part, the protagonists come to the interview without make-up or costume. They sit and talk to Roversi about the ongoing project, each of them fighting for their own participation, telling the director about their personal experiences and how they imagine Julia. In this way, the actresses reveal their intimate, personal side. In the second part, they wear costumes to help them interpret Shakespeare’s heroine personally. The main goal is to depict a story in which reality is combined with fiction and the actress’s distinctive features smudge, as in the case of out-of-focus photography”.- We can read it in the press release. Hence the two different portraits of stars in the Pirelli 2020 Calendar.
The photos were taken in Verona, a city associated with Juliet, as well as in Paris, where the photographer has been living for 40 years. On 132 pages of the calendar we can find 58 photos with heroes and showing Verona. “The front and back covers are decorated with gold-plated letters emphasizing Juliet’s date of birth, her first encounter with Romeo, their wedding and their death. These dates are supplemented by the dates of birth of the stars of the Calendar, whose names are scattered among the constellations on the cover.
